What do you think of Ahwaa?

A+ A-

This is a relatively new site, and I was wondering if anyone had any specific input on the website itself.

What do you think of the interface? The way things are organized? The way things look? Is it immediately apparent where to go to talk about what? Are there things which you would like to see as potential additions to the site? And what do you think of the community here? .

I like the community (I'm new!) and I wish the posts and answers people post had a time. Like when the question was posted and what time other people answered.

  • i totaly agree with afya . one more thing , i think it should not just be about the topics , this is a LGBTQ website , it should contain professional advice and comments and maybe a place where u can met people , but u guys have to double check their identitiy first , cause they might turn out to be frauds and cause problems , maybe we can SHARE things like articles and videos and lets people say wat they think about it.

PurplenBlack, I like a lot of the latter suggestions, but I think that having basically a hook-up function for the site would kind of unbalance the site's (as well as the Mideast Youth network's) carefully guarded neutrality on the subject, and change it from a place for safe, civil discussion of LGBTQ issues to one that specifically advocates and supports such lifestyles. That's merely my perception, however, and MideastYouth may or may not be okay with advocating that, though I would not be.

Thanks Peter and everyone else for your opinions. We're always working on improving the site and take any feedback into serious consideration. We've been happy with the simplicity of the platform so far and just hope to continue building upon it based on these types of remarks.

I think Ahwaa could really use a notification system, where members get notified when their posts get replies. I prefer notifications on the website itself, though. And weekly newsletters could be nice, but it's just an idea.

As far as the interface is concerned, I'm happy with it. It's very easy to use and makes browsing pleasant.

Well, if you're in the middle east, then you can try a different continent. Most Asian countries are not kind to homosexuals.

peter , i understand how that a chat system can be RLY bad for the community here and may even damage the site's integrity , but what if we can have timed chatrooms , like , it's only available for a certain time at certain dates and such , with the supervision of admins/creators , it could work , and it help making the communication faster

    • Yeah I agree with that, as long as it is not being taken over with perverts. Remember the Yahoo LGBT groups in chat? Disgusting.

that's why i think it shouldnt be open all the time , maybe it should be just 1 or 2 rooms , and they should be supervised by admins or maybe the website creators themselves , to see if the convos r achieving the website's goals

Something I'd really like to see is there be something to indicate when a particular post is made, and maybe in the notification emails actually show who commented and have the link navigate you to their comment rather than trying to search through a whole thread trying to figure out which response it's talking about.

I am still finding it difficult sometimes to tell when someone posted a comment where and on what.

I mean this site IS for those topics. Personally, I can talk about my other interests with my friends but not everyone gets where I’m coming from when it comes to being gay. It’s nice to have a sounding board and it’s also quite telling that the same topics are being repeated. We’re not alone and there’s something comforting in knowing that.

I think a lot of us feel this forum is a free-zone. And where we can feel like ourselves and express our emotions.

The thing is, we might log in from public computers or computers at home where we can be discovered by people who don't know we are lgbtq or they know but punishes us for it. Therefore I thought is good to have a button which is "take me away from this page immediatly" (located somewhere obvious) if a family member or a friend or stranger enters the room when you're sitting in front of the computer. What do you think???

That's definitely necessary And in the next few weeks we hope to add a space for resources, literature, and links to regional LGBT organizations so that Ahwaa can be more than just a discussion platform, but also a resource where people can find all related information in one place. What do you think?
