Be aware of Saudi undercover Agents

A+ A-

Few days ago, my friends have been arrested by one of the undercover agents of Heya (https://www.pv.gov.sa). He met this undercover on one of iPhone hook-up applications and decided to meet him. As soon as he took out from his car he got arrested by Heya. This undercover agent did not use a fake image so that my friend could recognize him. Apparently, he looked pretty normal and young. My friend has been released on bail and he is waiting for his court hearing.

This story has shocked me because the purpose of Amr-bi-Al'Maroof is not making traps for people and encouraging them to do "sins". This practice is both non-Islamic and non-humanistic.

I don't what I can do to help friend. I am sure many other gay people have been arrested by Heya with the same scenario. We should spread the news to prevent other people become victim of Saudi official undercover agents. .

  • Scary and real, thanks for the reminder and warning. We all need to be very careful and although it's tempting to meet people within the gay community please be sure the other person is who they say they are. That takes time and patience but better safe than sorry.

This really sucks but at least try and warn people but be careful yourself!
And I'm just curious what exactly is he sentenced to? Like is there a crime called "Almost hooking up with someone via an iPhone app" in KSA ? Because so far thats all he is guilty with not even sure if "guilty" is the right word here.

That's why he is really worried and confused about what might be the outcome of the court. The can charge him for sprading Fahsha or something like that. I don't know.

    • Unfortunately, if the undercover agent has pictures that proves this person is committing a "homosexual act" that is enough for him to be sentenced. It's the same situation for men or women having sex outside of marriage / adultery, if there are pictures or videos to prove it then they can very well be sentenced for them.

This is why never ever share compromising pictures or webcam with someone you don't know. Also always delete your browser history and use proxies and VPNs whenever possible. There are many safe and great people out there but it takes one bad guy to out you and ruin your life.

From Islamic point of view, you don't commit a sin until you actually do it. Planning or thinking about a sin is not a sin. The struggle between your right side and Satan is ongoing. You might just change your mind in the last minute. You might just want to analyze the other person/situation out of curiosity. You even might be like this undercover agent, and your purpose is to "guide" another person on your own. I don't see how this practice of Amr-fi-AlMaroof is justified within the Sharia law.
