Rape as a cure for lesbians

A+ A-

Do you know that rape is commonly suggested as a "cure" for lesbians? Rape is an outrageous crime but somehow it is used as punishment and treatment for lesbians. This isn't a problem exclusive to the Arab world, it happens worldwide, but what makes it worse here is that because homosexuality is criminalised that means you can't report the rape as you will be imprisoned. There is no justice and victims end up living a traumatic nightmare for the rest of their life.

Until now there are no campaigns that expose this because victims of this risk their life and more crimes for speaking out, and because of that, many prefer not to, but it doesn't mean the problem isn't there or isn't widespread. .

Yes, this is a real issue facing lesbians globally and it's referred to as corrective rape. The legal systems throughout the Arab world do not recognize it specifically because homosexuality itself is a crime, making corrective rape unpunishable or easier to justify.

i'm not sure but i think this practice started in the militaries. i would classify this as something other than just homophobia because it is a hate crime and more people need to call it as such.

Don't understand how it's even non-punishable or even ignored. It is rape and no reason can justify that. The courts need to acknowledge that two wrongs don't make one right. Even so homosexuality is punishable by law rape is too and the victim has a right to justice. The only way that can happen is if we stand up for ourselves.

Once a lesbian is outed in places like Saudi Arabia depending on where she is, threats of rape or general sexual harassment are used as a form of intimidation and humiliation. It's virtually impossible to document these sorts of incidents because as implied, the victims risk more, if gone public with this.

I am not saying it can't happen, but is this an assumption of a likely scenario or has someone who experienced this or seen it said that this actually happens?

I have experienced these threats of rape personally because of my orientation and I know from my connections that I am not the only one. I was sexually violated by an ex as revenge and what he calls punishment for the sin and in seeking for help I have realised the numerous other lesbians this has happened to and how none come forward as it's the riskier option leaving this crime unseen.

I'm very sorry you had to endure that. I hope you're in a better place now.

Where is this most prevalent? I've actually heard of "straight" men raping gay men to "set them straight". Doesn't make sense at all! :-/ I posted a topic about it.

  • Rape is not a cure. it just breed psychopath, traumatic lesbians and maybe walking time bomb.

Rape is not just an issue here. I travelled to Texas in 2009 where i am introduced to a "straightening camp" for gay guys. you know what they used?- hormones and an emetic while the gay guys are watching the gay porn. you know what i hate it when they said, we are here to straight you up in the name of god. for no scriptures in any religious based said you should shock the gay people or cut their balls.

people wage war in the name of God. what a loser.

I believe the idea of rape itself provides a good mental trauma to the individual. According to a german psychiatrist, a traumatized raped person is unlikely going to have sex in his or her life, they have a very low self esteem and bound to have social anxiety, social awkwardness and suicidal thoughts.

the idea using rape, or the mere threats are documented under the convention of Geneva to be immoral, inhumane, and cannot be applied in the society. to be honest, geneva was the one who started the global medical attention needs to all group of people, and they are the white people. the Arabs somehow, regardless how high the holy scriptures inside their head, or the prayers they have done in the night, they condone this act represent how morally corrupt they are.

in South africa, before the first gay rights movement was presented to the world, gay men are to be castrated (bye bye balls) and the female vagina to be sew shut or to wear a virginity belt. the practice of wearing the chastity or the virginity belt was done during Elizabeth years, and still practice in certain communities. though some might do it due to culture, others do it just for role playing and bondage sex fantasy.

in my on opinion, if you want to treat lesbians, or gay alike, get to know them and understand them. not just blindly shock, penis stuff, ball cutting, threat shoving, drugs therapy them all the way to Friday. The sexuality is not of own choosing, it is an inborn traits, influenced by majority of factors. You are what you are and your body is your temple.

Here's a new article about "cure rapes" in South Africa. It's horrible to read.

"Ever since a 1998-2000 report by the United Nations Office on Crime and Drugs ranked South Africa as highest for rapes per capita, it has repeatedly been described as the rape capital of the world: 500,000 rapes a year; one every 17 seconds; one in every two women will be raped in her lifetime. Twenty per cent of men say the victim "asked for it", according to a survey by the anti-violence NGO, CIET"

What are you kidding me? Is that like when your dad catches you smoking and so he makes you smoke a whole pack so you won't want to do it again?

I have to say I find that notion somewhat hard to believe, I don't doubt that you've heard of this but I'd be skeptical.

I think that a high number of corrective occurs in African countries, especially on South Africa where 25% of all women have suffered rape or any other form of sexual abuse. The rate of rape must definitely be higher for LBT women thanks to years indoctrination. The main reason why corrective rape is so prevalent in MENA and Africa is probably the average male citizen's believe that the male sex is superior and so all women must desire the male body and not the female body. Poor women...
