Gender change, natural or unnatural?

A+ A-

I had a discussion/debate over the issue on my blog after criticizing Iran's reason for having gender change be legal, and that is to have the gay/lesbian population in Iran have the ability to love who they want to love, after a serious operation to change their gender in order for their preference in love to be acceptable. Gender change is forbidden for the ones that feel uncomfortable under their skin.

And, then one of my followers commented on my post opposing gender change, and stating that it is "unnatural"

I'm not quite sure whether or not to consider it natural or unnatural.

But, whether a person is natural, or unnatural, why must we favor the natural, and ignore the "artificial"?

because its risky to toy with the natural. i would never change my gender just to do what i want.... i love my body but i respct the ones that want to change theirs so they love it and feel comfortable in their own skin too its their right to do it. i think in iran people do it since its really what they want and many who dont want to change their body they wont and they will just accept the risk of being gay in a place like that.

    • Iran is the most Islamic dominant Middle Eastern country, and I am not surprised over their views of LGBT. But, why must we not be surprised over people being killed for being openly gay? Humanity has not come as far as most of us would like it to be.

There isn't a question of natural or unnatural when it comes to being transgender. A person who feels uncomfortable with the gender they were assigned at birth go on to change their sex and/or identify as the sex they believe themselves to be. Whoever they feel they are is what is natural to them. Although, it is unnatural for one to be forced to change their sex so that they can be called heterosexual and it is unnatural only because the person who is being forced is obviously unwilling and only does so to avoid prosecution. So yes, I would oppose forcing people who are comfortable with their sex to change but there is nothing wrong with changing ones sex if that is what they want.

  • That is a very solid point, indeed.
