Why don't people take LGBT related issues seriously in our communities?

A+ A-

I was talking with a friend, and she told me that people here seem to completely ignore people who are being jailed, killed, tortured etc for being different. And frankly, I don't really have much hope for things to change in ME/NA anytime soon. From what I've seen, it seems like people have a tendency to say that there's more important things to worry about, so LGBT matters don't currently matter.
I wonder if it's even worth waiting for? Shouldn't individuals who are being put in danger move out to more accepting places?

i think most people aren't accepting because the lgbtq+ is "different" to them and i've realized that (where i live at least) when people recognize something different that they're not used to they tend to reject it and make fun of it, and instead of blaming they actions on themselves they use religion as an excuse to do what they're doing.
