Dating Chart

A+ A-

When I was a little more innocent in the dating world of gay girls, it never occurred to me that "The Chart" (Alice's Chart from the TV Series "L Word") will be a true to life experience. I've come to realize that dating is not easy.
The endless chart gives me headache and unwanted dramas in my life.
I have dated a few girls across the country.. and my hands were tied, after knowing that this particular girl I was dating, dated a girl that I dated.. or vice versa!

So.. yup. I decided not to date anyone known in the gay community.
Though, a year of not dating is kind of depressing.. but, I can still manage to get myself busy ... as I don't want my name to be connected to the real time Chart.
As much as I miss dating and having to look forward for something with someone.. well, I'll stand on my grounds til the right person comes along. And by saying "right", I mean a real woman who's not into small talk and doesn't know 80% of Bahrain's population lol

Is it possible for any Bahraini or person in Bahrain to NOT know 80% of the local population? Hahah

Kudos for standing your ground until the right person comes along, when you finally meet her she will be very worth the wait

HAHAHA true that! I hide from everyone It's probably why most of my relationships have been long distance. I dated a few people here but I don't know, the lesbian scene is not that active and there's lots of gossip flying around which I despise. Felt it's best to stay away from all that. Maybe we should do a meetup of creeped out lesbians in BH

    • Well, maybe you're right agedgrapes..
it makes me sick that I let myself to be in a circle of endless gossip and unwanted dramas for a whole year. That was the worst year for me in Bahrain.
Imagine, there were girls you barely know who comes and talk to you about other girls.
AND FUCKKKK I HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO SIT THERE AND JUST SMILE.
Those were the moments I asked myself "WHY AM I EVEN A LESBIAN?!!!"

Wow sounds horrid! Being on the down low is useful on the whole I suppose.

It's so unattractive to see a woman talk bad about other women. Hope things have got better for ya!

And Reem, long distance sucks lol might as well just call it a friendship

    • Things are better this way.. I am glad I can talk to people online (thanks to ahwaa!)
It might feel depressing at times, but I'd rather stay home than deal with something like that "out there"

"long distance sucks lol might as well just call it a friendship" this cracked me up lol
      so true!

I don't know why but this conversation was hilarious haha thank you two for the laughs! Long distance has been nothing but heartaches so far (so much misunderstanding and bickering.) But during the visits it's been amazing so I keep holding on until the next time I can see her again. It's lonely as hell here though, it's so hard to find the right friends let alone a partner. Impossible almost, been here all my life and nothing.

Random Q... But would your girlfriend mind you dating etc where you live?

Yes for sure, we are exclusive, I've never had an open relationship. If we do break up (we're not doing great) my preference is to find someone locally though. Been dealing with long distance for too long.

It's scary because it's such a small place and people tend to talk. Especially if you get too close and families start becoming suspicious. It really depends on the person you're dating and their background, it's much easier if the person is older and doesn't have to hide around as much but if it's a younger person without much experience it's hard and there's lots of tip-toeing around which can get old very quickly. For this reason I've avoided dating much here.

    • i would love to go on a date here but let me find her. As to the chart if its a small community then yeah some one will know another and what not.

Lol Reem, you're funny! So technically long distance works for you because of the whole tip toeing hiding around business :P Only joking... I'm sure everyone's ideal situation is to just be. People will be judgemental wherever you go. Though I believe everyone should be allowed to be whatever they want... Others are not equipped in handling that. So... In order to avoid unnecessary drama staying close to boundary in public/families reduces much stress Some of us definitely have it easier than others... But despite that, I firmly believe in privacy. Privacy of knowledge about the couple to the public can allow for optimal openness behind closed doors...

Cucumbermargarita, what's been your experience here?

Do you girls think it makes a difference if you're from here originally/not when it comes to dating?

  • Reem, but have you ever tried dating here? are those from your experience or just your perception towards the matter of dating here.

Cucumbermargarita, that's the reason why I raise the issue of "the chart" Hahaha

    Hmm... interesting question!
Of course, it does make a difference..
I met people who came from places where being gay is OK, so when it comes to being here in Bahrain they think that this is the worst place for a gay could be. Limited access to the gay world (far different from what they got used to.. being open and others), dating here is one thing .. and "finding" someone to date is a whole different thing. Lol
They have no idea of what dating here is like. For others, they might find it interesting and actually go for it - could be for the sake of having to experience, explore and embrace what Bahrain has to offer..while people from here knows much more and most of them wouldn't want to take the risk of dating here, there are a lot of things to consider before taking a step further (Did I just made dating in Bahrain sound bad? If so, it wasn't my intention Hehe)

I don't even know if I am making sense here.

  • My hopes are really high.
But I am sure of what I want. Although, women tend to have more dramas in their lives.. I don't need any from a temporary person who would stay for a short period of time.
