Hi
Just found out about this group today, so me and some friends decided to join in :) i'm a bisexual female, who like lots of people in the middle east was at first a homophobe, i also thought i was a pervert since the term bisexual was never heard of in my family and probably throughout the whole arab nation, then at about 12 or 13 years of age i read an article in one of the arab magazines about a lesbian who had sent to the editor asking him for his help in finding a "cure" for her case, and ever since that day i've been reading about homosexuals, bisexuals, transgenders and intersexuals, it made me understand who i am, made me gradually accept myself and people around me, and even though i'm still living with a homophobic family, in a society filled with haters and people who present a real threat to someone like me or any of my friends, it's more than enough for me that I am OK with who i am.

Hello, welcome to Ahwaa! It's great having you and your friends here :D I used to think I had a 'fetish' for liking girls. I really believed that that's all it was. But eventually I made friends who introduced me to the gay community in the Middle East and I realized what I knew in my heart- I'm gay! It's the same for me. Living in such a homophobic community has only made me realize how important my life and happiness is and that I'm willing to do a lot to make sure I keep my independence.

Hi Lilly,
Glad you learnt about yourself, and accepted yourself the way you're without "imposing" the homophobic's society measures and tear yourself apart. I think this is the message behind all the discussions here. It goes like this; if the society doesn't accept us for who we're, we'll at least accept ourvselves and all the minoritites around us, because we definitely feel thie pain.

Hi Lilly. Many here can relate when it comes to homophobic families. It's always better when you surround yourself with people who go through the same challenges and who understand. :)
