I think he means safer emotionally and not sexually, so that you don't have to commit to one person only and then have other urges and be accused of cheating. Maybe..

I don't think I can ever handle being in an open relationship. Not only because it would make me feel inadequate but also because it feels unusual. I personally prefer having my partner to myself and sharing everything with just her. So I'd rather put the energy into my existing relationship and use that trust between us for boundless emotional and physical exploration.

I think, if you can't help it, you should declare that! Playing behind the back, although it might be interesting, not always cool, especially for people who we care about when they discover by chance.
Open relationships are the most relevant and safe choice in many cases. You can't exclude that completely.

Personally I would be way too jealous at the thought of her in someone else's arms, doing anything sexual. I prefer to be in a relationship with one person who completes me and vice versa, we wouldn't need anyone else to make up for any shortcomings. If it's a fling I won't mind but once I'm in love and in a serious relationship I expect that person to be faithful to me.

I think it comes down to why not try and go through that (sexually) with the current partner, making it work, rather than complicating matters and having multiple people in their life. Because the way I see it, if the current partner satisfies the person both ways, why go be with someone else?

I think sex is a definitive human need, like food and drink, and you could satisfy it with any one that you fancy based on mutual acceptance. Love on the other hand is a major definition for very complicated emotion towards a person/group of persons/thing/group of things that range from buying 2 pizzas instead of 1, and doesn't end by sharing the bed with them.

if ur in an open relationship , taht makes him just a 'temp. boyfriend' , theres no strings attached here , ur only together till u find the real thing , and if u cant handle the idea of him knowing/sleeping or whatever with others then u have passed the limits of an open relationship, and if u act upon ur 'jealousy' , that makes u the bad one , cuz he didnt break the "rules" of the relationship , u did .

IF both of them dont mind an open relationship then that's fine. Some couples think a relationship is not only based on sex but other things matter more, and some people cant be with someone who can make love to several other people because it doesnt make them feel special. Personally if I'm deeply in love with someone I cant be in an open relationship, but if we're just sex buddies who like to cuddle and stuff then why not.
